About University
Chittagong General Hospital started functioning on the hill top of down town Anderkilla, opening the era of institutionalized practice of modern medicine. 1927- Chittagong Medical School was established in Chittagong General Hospital compound to conduct a four year Licentiate Course (LMF), to produce midlevel physicians. 1956- The government decided to establish a full-pledged medical college. 1957- Chittagong Medical College came into being. Mr. Huseyn Shaheed Suhreawardy, the Prime Minister of Pakistan along with the Health Minister Dhirendra Nath Dutta, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman is a member of the Council of Ministers of the provincial government inaugurated the Medical College in the present campus at Panchlaish. Dr. Altaf Uddin Ahmed was the 1st Principal of this institution. Chattogram Medical College started with only three Academic departments Anatomy Physiology and Biochemistry and with 26 teachers and 76 students. 1969- Dental Unit was established and BDS Courses started. 1992- Diploma courses in 3 Subjects. Gynecology & Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Anesthesiology introduced. 20022- i) Introduced 29 post graduate courses : MD, MS, M Phil, MPH & Diploma ii) MBBS-2022 curriculum implemented, 2007- i) MD course in Forensic Medicine introduced, ii) BDS-2007 curriculum implemented. 2012-i) MBBS-2012 curriculum implemented, 2016-i) BDS-2016 curriculum implemented. 2021-i) MBBS-2021 curriculum implemented.
